Physical Theatre: Outbreak and Absorption

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter considers the development of Physical Theatre in the UK from the 1960s to the turn of the century. It takes as its starting point two key academic papers on Physical Theatre from the mid-1990s and considers the absence of Lecoq-based Physical Theatre companies, such as Complicite, from these critical texts. Moving backwards from the 1990s, this chapter discusses the work of earlier examples of Physical Theatre, which do not belong to the same lineages of DV8 or Complicite such as Freehold and Pip Simmons.
