Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the prime areas of learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage, personal social and emotional development, physical development and communication and language. It explains why these prime areas are fundamental to children’s holistic development and learning. The chapter considers how to plan for children’s learning and development in the prime areas through an enabling environment, and positive adult-child relationships.
