Abstract

A new type of low-cost on-board unit has been realised using a circularly polarised aperture coupled patch antenna and a single diode for ASK detection and PSK modulation. The communication range of the microwave link with the new OBU has been tested and proved to be adequate for use in demand management systems. This offers an alternative, more cost effective solution for the mass manufacturing of on-board units.
