Abstract
Anne Clifford's book collection has long been at the forefront of scholarship on early modern women's reading practices and book accquistition.1 The discovery of a manuscript inventory of 109 books from Clifford's library in Appleby Castle makes a significant contribution to this scholarship, and it also enhances our understanding of book ownership by men and women in the seventeenth century more generally.
