Routledge Handbook on the Reception of Classical Architecture

Nicholas Temple (Editor), Andrzej Piotrowski (Editor), Juan Herdia (Editor)

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

This book comprises contributions from eminent academics from around the world on the theme of the reception of classical architecture. It examines the cultural, social, political, religious and ideological contexts of classical architecture in different parts of the world, and how aspects of colonialism, religious conversion, slavery and cultural assimilation were addressed in different geographical contexts. At the same time, chapters consider more theoretical issues concerning the meanings and definitions of classicism, through an examination of etymological meanings, textual sources and architectural features.
