N2 - 2022 – RISE! Rise, grow, spring, curiosity inspires our senses. This is the motto of the SONIC MATTER platform this year, and with it the SONIC MATTER Festival from 1 to 4 December 2022. For the second time, the SONIC MATTER platform for contemporary experimental music and cross-disciplinary forms of sound-related art presents a festival lasting several days, the research laboratory _openlab THE WITNESS and many multi-faceted formats such as a symposium, a radio project, the _village and the guest festival. The Collegium Novum Zürich opens the festival with a full line-up and a world premiere by Laure M. Hiendl (a co-production with SONIC MATTER). Cellist Charles Curtis, together with Dafne Vicente-Sandoval (bassoon), Robin Hayward (tuba) and Rhodri Davies (harp), invites the audience to a full-body immersion in the minute floats of a sound of Éliane Radigue's new composition – a work commissioned by SONIC MATTER.SONIC MATTER is composed of various event formats that contextualise music-making in a variety of ways: Hearing, seeing, feeling, participation or reflection are renegotiated in each situation. Classical concert formats, hybrid performance situations or the specific forms of performance of border-crossing club culture find just as much space as discursive symposia, informal discussion rounds and participatory formats in which the experience of art and artmaking interpenetrate. SONIC MATTER is a forum that supports experimental music creation in a sustainable and diverse way and creates a space in which sounding art acts independently, as a connecting element with other disciplines and as a medium for social exchange. The SONIC MATTER 2022 Festival is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.Newsfeed by Pierre-Alexandre Tremblay was performed
