Soundscape for 'Winter - Bud Blast'

This work is part of an on-going collaboration with Yan Wang Preston examining the cultural symbolism of Rhododendron and how in some countries they are considered an invasive species. The soundscape is made up from recordings of Wang Preston dissecting aborted flower buds collected in Todmorden - the location of the filming of another work in the cycle (With Love. From an Invader). A variety of close mic techniques were used to capture the sound in detail. The work accompanies a large series of photographs Wang Preston took after each bud had been dissected. The work was originally premiered at the exhibition: Field Studies - Land Body Botany at the Bath House Galleries, University of Huddersfield September-October 2023.
