Abstract

The history of population pressure and competition for land in Southern Africa is considered and related to indigenous politics and European settlement. Population declines occurred as a result of the introduction of European diseases and land confiscation. Two present-day problems are the rapid rise in population and the dominance of the white minority in South Africa. -R.Land
