Abstract
The launch of 6G around 2030 is expected to enable a hyperconnected society by uniting physical environments with the metaverse, in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Japan Society 5.0 vision. This paper studies remote surgical training and support, both with and without robotic systems, and addresses the challenges presented by Brazil’s extensive geography and regional inequalities. These limitations restrict access to specialised care and training in public hospitals and remote areas such as the Amazon, where shortages of medical specialists contribute to preventable mortality. This study draws on the experience of the Laboratory for Teaching, Research, and Innovation in Surgery (LEPIC) at the Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo, where medical students are trained in advanced technologies, including robotics and telesurgery in simulated operating rooms. It also incorporates insights from ongoing projects on remote medical assistance in the Amazon, supported by 5G and Digital Health applications. The proposed framework, termed SurgiVerse 6G, is designed for high-impact and time-critical clinical scenarios, including obstetric emergencies, orthopaedic fractures, and laparoscopic surgical procedures. It leverages Terahertz communications, AI, and video-based ML to generate privacy-preserving semantic clinical and educational data. Supported by ultra-low-latency wireless infrastructure, AI-driven augmented reality, and UHD video transmission, the framework merges multimodal data to enable coordinated decision-making and distributed collaboration. This analysis presents a conceptual and architectural framework to improve clinical results and expand access to high-quality care and training in underserved zones.
