Abstract
During the initial audience trials of Syzygy, 15 participants experienced the first section of the exhibition. These trials provided valuable insight into how audiences engaged with the installation’s layered interactive systems, from tactile sculptural elements to AR‑mediated ecological narratives.
Feedback indicated that participants felt a heightened sense of agency and responsibility within the speculative environment, often reflecting on their role in ecological transformation. Many reported that the work encouraged them to consider the ethics of environmental intervention and social relationships in new ways, connecting personal choices to planetary and technological futures.
These findings demonstrate Syzygy’s potential to foster critical reflection and imaginative engagement with complex ecological issues, laying the groundwork for further development of the installation and its community‑facing iterations.
Future work will focus on analysing the recorded interview data and examining the outputs of the video documentation from these trials. This will inform further research into how immersive, participatory installations can shape ecological imagination and public discourse, ultimately guiding the next phase of Syzygy’s creative and academic development.
