Abstract

This exhibition brings together work by internationally renowned textile artist collective, the 62 Group, taking as its starting point the theme and process of tailoring.

Cutting, tacking and construction techniques all feature strongly in the exhibition, whether based on imagery of tailoring, or branching into new directions. Stitches themselves become a new language of mark or construction.

Highly personal, compelling and thought provoking themes lie behind many of the works. The life cloth and clothing, as well as its connection through time and place, demonstrates the unique role of textiles in our lives. Clothing as a second skin becomes a symbol for the body and also provides a means to explore identity and self-image.
