Abstract

3 inflatables of 3m length, ripstop nylon and plastic with integral fans and timers

The installation 'The Air Which Held Them' features three gigantic, inflatable winged ‘messenger’ heads that appear to have alighted in Christ Church from another place.

The heads originate in the precise measurements of the artists' heads taken from biomedical facial scans. Their gradual inflation and deflation cycles give the impression of an animated presence in a space that is frozen in time. The scale of the forms recasts the audience in miniature, enabling them to experience the interface between the architecture, the body and the imagination.
