N2 - What is the purpose of a tourism journal specialising in sustainability, and how does it best serve the needs of knowledge development, academia and wider society? Now that the Journal of Sustainable Tourism (JoST) is over 30 years old, and we’ve recently had a change in the editorial team, we thought it would be timely to consult with the editorial board to refresh and renew our aims and long-term outcomes, and ensure that our activities and use of resources are aligned with delivering outputs that will head us in the right direction. Editorial board members were invited to shape the ambitions and directions of the journal. We agreed that JoST aims to be a leading knowledge vehicle, theoretically rigorous yet solution-oriented, transformational journal, that contributes to solve the sustainability needs of society, with accumulated, developed, rapid and relevant knowledge that reaches beyond academia.
