Abstract

Review question
1. What is the concept of reassurance as used in clinical practice by nurses?
2. How do nurses reassure patients?
3. What are the outcomes of reassurance in nursing care?

Searches
The literature will be searched using the electronic databases PubMed, OVID MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PsycINFO for relevant articles published, with no restriction on dates. PsycINFO will help to cover the psychological construct nature of the proposed review, CINAHL will provide coverage on nurses (as our focused interest), MEDLINE and PubMed will offer large medical literature. An electronic search will be conducted using variants of the following keywords: reassurance and nurses. Free texts and databasespecific index terms (subject headings) will be used as appropriate to increase the sensitivity of our search strategy. The search will be limited to journal articles and studies with human subjects
