Abstract
In 2017, the global Muslim population stood at 1.8 billion and is estimated to rise to 3 billion by 2060 (Thomson Reuters, 2019). Population growth is driving the demand for halal products and services worldwide and halal food is now big business. In 2016 alone, UK Muslims are estimated to have spent £4.5 billion on halal food and beverages (AHDB, 2020). If the UK Muslim population continues to expand from 5.7 million (ONS, 2021) to 13 million by 2050, as forecast by the Pew Research Centre (2017), demand for halal food will increase significantly as the market expands and develops in new ways.
