Abstract

this voice; this life; this procession (2024), 13:00 was presented Sound / Image 2024: Concert 2 — VR, XR, AV, Sound at the Bathway Theatre as part of The Greenwich SOUND/IMAGE Conference and Festival (University of Greenwich)

Thresholds fascinate the artists, sparking the desire to punctuate seemingly impermeable physical and digital spaces. this voice; this life; this procession is a major new video work by Brass Art, with composition by Annie Mahtani. It was developed after visiting Woolf’s writing shed at Monk’s House, her last home in Rodmell, Sussex. Normally closed to the public, Brass Art were permitted access to scan themselves inside this intimate, creative space and its surrounding garden, using laser technologies, over the course of a single winter’s day. Working with occlusions and stream of consciousness Brass Art created a 13min double projection work.

First premiered at HOME Manchester, it was re-presented at the Bathway Theatre with full 32 channel surround sound. The work meditates on life, death and the creative impetus.

The Greenwich SOUND/IMAGE Conference and Festival presents a series of exhibitions, workshops, talks and activities showcasing leading audio-visual art that investigates relationships between sound and image. The first SOUND/IMAGE Conference took place in 2015, inviting international world-leading artists to share their work and practice, in an open and accessible environment.
