Abstract
This article focuses on the development of public relations as an intellectual field, promoting a paradigmatic approach to the prevailing theoretical and conceptual proposals in the past 35 years. To this end, it has explored journal articles and books from recognized editorials who have been published between 1980 and 2015, so as to highlight the different theoretical views built around discipline and establish whether it is valid to refer to the existence of a dominant paradigm and alternative approaches.
