University rankings at the crossroads

It explores the growing prominence of rankings over the past two decades, driven by three transformative trends: the rise of generative artificial intelligence, the digital transformation of data collection and management, and increased global mobility and competition for talent (which has impacted higher education). The core of the chapter outlines key themes and challenges addressed in this edited volume, emphasizing their interrelated nature.
