This research project delves into the evolution of Royal Navy (RN) uniforms and their impact on naval uniforms worldwide. Drawing on personal experiences, the author explores the profound influence of uniforms in her life, from early exposure to ecclesiastical and maritime attire to her involvement in the Girls Nautical Training Contingent (GNTC) and Sea Cadet Corps (SCC).The study encompasses a comprehensive analysis of the historical, cultural, and symbolic significance embedded in Royal Navy uniforms, shedding light on their enduring appeal and distinctive role within maritime communities. The research aims to examine the transformation of Royal Navy uniforms over time, from their traditional roots to their contemporary expressions. It investigates their influence on shaping naval attire on a global scale. Employing a multidisciplinary approach, the project leverages historical documentation, literary works, and museum visits to provide a rich and nuanced understanding of the meanings and developmental trajectories of naval uniforms, with a particular focus on gender roles within this context. Ultimately, this research seeks to contribute to a deeper appreciation of the heritage and evolution of Royal Navy uniforms while illuminating their broader influence on naval dress codes worldwide.
